Responsibilities:

• Drive the continued decomposition of our legacy Spring monolith into independently deployable Spring Boot 4 services using a strangler-pattern migration, including untangling authentication, session, and tenancy concerns.
• Design and implement secure, consistent RESTful APIs behind Spring Cloud Gateway, and establish fleet-wide API standards: error envelopes, versioning, pagination, and tenancy conventions that every service follows.
•  Own and evolve our shared platform library consumed by every microservice, authentication filters, HTTP clients, Redis and SQS utilities with disciplined semantic versioning, backward compatibility, and a safe publishing pipeline.
• Harden authentication and authorization across the platform: JWT validation and lifecycle, Spring Security method-level authorization, service-to-service trust, and strict multi-tenant isolation for PHI.
•  Build and operate event-driven workflows on AWS, getting the hard parts right: idempotency, deduplication, retry semantics, and failure visibility.
• Write and review correct reactive code on Spring WebFlux / Project Reactor, spotting blocking calls on event loops, assembly-time side effects, and unsubscribed publishers before they reach production Ensure comprehensive automated testing and improve observability across services using modern testing frameworks and monitoring tools.
•  Uphold HIPAA and SOC 2 Type II practices in design and code encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege access, and audit-friendly data handling.
•  Mentor engineers through design and code review, raising the team’s bar on reactive programming, security, and API craftsmanship.

Required Skills:

• 8+ years of backend development with Java; deep, current expertise in Spring Boot 3 and Spring Framework 6.
• Production experience with Spring WebFlux and Project Reactor. You should be able to reason about subscription semantics, backpressure, and blocking hazards, not just write happy-path chains.
• Strong Spring Security depth: JWT-based authentication, security filter chains, method-level authorization, and experience designing authorization models for sensitive or regulated data.
• Proven experience decomposing production monoliths into services while keeping the lights on (strangler pattern, incremental cutover, backward-compatible contracts).
• Deep PostgreSQL expertise, schema design, indexing, and performance tuning and Hibernate/JPA.
• Production experience with AWS messaging (SQS, SNS) in distributed systems, including FIFO queues, DLQs, and idempotent consumers.
• Strong hands-on Redis experience (caching, distributed sessions, TTL semantics).
•  REST API design at fleet scale: consistency, versioning, and error-contract discipline across many services.
• Proficiency in test automation (JUnit 5, Mockito) and CI-integrated testing.
•  Working knowledge of core AWS (RDS, ECS, S3, VPC, IAM fundamentals).
• Self-motivated and effective in a remote-first, cross-functional team.Required Skills
